The School of Agrarian and Veterinary Sciences (ECAV) is a School within the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) that excels in the continuous pursuit of activities in:
university teaching,
scientific research,
knowledge transfer and valorisation,
cultural dissemination, and
provision of specialised services.

Its operations are deeply aligned with UTAD's strategic objectives, developing cross-cutting and interface projects with other UTAD Schools and various national and international teaching and research institutions.

The activities undertaken by ECAV generally fall within UTAD's disciplinary and scientific areas, specifically:

• Veterinary Sciences;
• Animal Science;
• Agronomic Sciences;
• Oenological Sciences;
• Forest and Landscape Sciences.

The School's structure includes the Departments of Agronomy, Forest Sciences and Landscape Architecture, Veterinary Sciences, and Animal Science.

In the field of teaching, ECAV is committed to providing all its students with the best overall learning experience. The primary goal is to train competent professionals with a strong social conscience, capable of integrating and acting autonomously. This educational process is conducted in light of the principles of active citizenship and profound respect for life and nature.

The production and dissemination of scientific knowledge at ECAV is guided by the needs of society and businesses in the region where it is located. In this way, the School actively contributes to improving people's quality of life and fostering territorial cohesion.

ECAV prides itself on a highly qualified faculty. The majority of professors conduct nationally and internationally recognised research in centres of excellence such as the Centre for Research and Agrarian Agro-environmental and Biological Technologies (CITAB), the Centre for Animal and Veterinary Science (CECAV), and the Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies for Development (CETRAD), all anchored at UTAD. Additionally, some faculty are integrated into other research centres within UTAD and other universities, according to the nature and specificity of the research projects they are involved in, enriching the diversity and impact of their scientific output.
